The more we think about a Joss Whedon Batgirl movie, the more excited we get and the more we need it right now!
The writer/director of the (far in the future) DC/Warners movie has been talking about the process of making the movie, casting the right actress and finding the character.
And he may also be considering Vin Diesel for the role. But he’s kidding. Well, we think he’s kidding.
“I have so many things to say about her, I’m very excited to see a girl in the cowl,” Whedon said, “I don’t have my eye on anybody. I’m creating this character, I’m in a dialogue with her and then we’ll see who joins that later on…I doubt it’ll be a name. I think this is somewhere where you go and find Batgirl and then you cast her.”
So, he’s not looking at Emma Stone as all the rumours would have you believe? Shocker.
Look, we don’t think Batgirl – or any comic character at this stage – needs to be a big name actress or actor to draw an audience, but what we do think the actress needs to be is right for the role and Whedon, love or loathe his stuff (and we doubt too many of you loathe Whedon or his output) you can’t argue that he always finds the right talent for the role.
“I’m not against movie stars, they’re great, but you need somebody who’s going to be just right, and a situation like this the name carries a lot of weight, so it’s not as critical,” he added. Before joking – we hope – that Vin Diesel is the person to put on the cape and cowl.
We’re so excited t see this movie and what Whedon does when he finally steps into the Batman extended family… and we’re still confident that we’ll be seeing Batman, Robin, Nightwing and more in this movie before it’s done… and we need to see JK Simmons in it as her dad, Commissioner Gordon!
Can it please just be here now?!
