Director Doug Liman talk about DC’s upcoming Justice League Dark movie

May 11th, 2017 by Marc Comments

Of all the upcoming DC Movies – Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Justice League, Flash, Batman, Suicide Squad 2, Gotham Sirens, Nightwing, Batgirl and more – one of the ones we are most excited for is Justice League Dark.

Or Dark Universe as it may end up being called.

We know the movie was once set to be a Guillermo Del Toro project (it’s now not) and that Colin Farrell is oft-rumoured to be playing John Constantine (here), but aside from that, little is known except that it will probably feature John Constantine, Swamp Thing, Deadman, Zatanna and Etrigan the Demon.

And THAT is why we’re excited for it. Those characters in a DC movie just feels so… right!

Anyway, we know the movie will be directed by Doug Liman who stepped down from the Gambit movie at Fox to make room to let the DC universe into his world.

And now he’s been talking about how the movie will me a smaller, more character-driven project than people would expect: “I think people will be surprised how character driven and how intimate Justice League Dark is — in kind of a field of bloated comic book movies. We’ve found a way to do something that’s actually really personal and small, and that’s my goal.

“The Wall (his latest movie which he’s currently promoting) is about character. The scenario allows me to dive into what I think is… I just love people! I love putting people in crazy situations. For John Constantine, we have an amazing set-up for him for Justice League Dark that’s really human.”

The DC Cinematic Universe has already touched on the supernatural with Suicide Squad and Enchantress in particular, so it’s wide open for Constantine and the JLD to step into the arena and if Liman already knows how Constantine comes into the story then we can only assume there’s a story ready to go.

Man, it’s such an exciting time!

What do you all think?
