While everyone continues to disagree over Justice League, the Warner Bros/DC cinematic universe continues to expand and we have some news on that expansion for you lovely people.
Firstly, above, you’ll see the first image from Fast & Furious 7 director James Wan’s solo outing for Aquaman starring the one and only Jason Momoa.
And man, he looks mean in this image… but who is that to his right (our left)?
And you thought Jason Momoa looked badass in Justice League.
“It’s going to look very different, it will feel very different — aesthetically, tonally, story-wise — it’s my own take,” Saids Wan. “It’s a much more a traditional action-adventure quest movie.”
Speaking to EW, Momoa explains why this standalone is a much bigger deal in Aquaman’s life: “Justice League was only a weekend in Arthur Curry’s life,” Momoa says.
“This is a totally different beast. In Aquaman, you see when his parents met and what happened to them. Then the little boy being raised and finding his powers and going through that and never being accepted on either side. And then becoming this man who puts up all these walls. You just slowly see this man harden up and be completely reluctant wanting to be king and not knowing what to do with these powers he has. I think James Wan just killed it.”
We’re loving the look of Aquaman and wonder if he, like Wonder Woman, can get the fans and critics on side when his movie lands late next year.
In related news, it has been announced that the Shazam! movie has cast another big character in the Captain Marvel (no, not that one) family…
Young actor Jack Dylan Grazer, one of the stars of IT, has been cast as Freddy Freeman, formerly known as Captain Marvel Junior (below).
The movie will also star Zachary Levi in the title role and Asher Angel as young Billy Batson who becomes the hero of legend when he utters the magic word ‘Shazam!’
David F. Sandberg is on board to direct from a script by Henry Gayden and Darren Lemke. Grazer will play Freddy, Batson’s best friend and the only person who knows the truth about Shazam.
