Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 3 getting reboot treatment?

It’s been six months since THAT ending to Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2 and while the Monsterverse is rampaging on with new movies, comics and spin-offs, we’re all wondering what happens next after Rodan appears out of that volcano. Again.

Well, fear not, it seems we might get an answer eventually, although it might be with a new team guiding the action.

It seems that Apple TV and Legendary Television are currently thrashing out a deal to bring the hit series back for a third season and it’s looking like a reboot is on the table.

According to Deadline’s report: Search is underway for new writers and showrunner who will take over from the series’ Season 1 and Season 2 creative team, led by showrunner/executive producer Chris Black who co-created Monarch with Season 1 executive producer Matt Fraction.

New details on third Monsterverse series, Red Monarch, revealed

Just how much of a reboot this will be is still unclear as of now – will it be a new team behind the camera only? Or will we see an end to Kurt Russell and son Wyatt Russell as young/old Lee Shaw? Or will their story continue? Whatever happens, that story will still need an ending, so I’d imagine we’ll see the Russells as well as other cast members Millie Brady, Pilou Asbaek, Corey Stoll, Ralph Ineson, Nyasha Hatendi, Connie Nielsen and Stana Katic if only for a sign-off.

We also know that Wyatt Russell is currently getting ready to film Red Monarch, a spinoff from Monarch: Legacy of Monsters.

Meanwhile, we here at FTN HQ just want a second season of the Skull Island animated series (yes, I know the comics wrapped the story up but we still want more animated chaos).

Season one of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters tracks two siblings looking to uncover their family’s connection to the secretive organisation known as Monarch. Clues lead them into the world of monsters and ultimately down the rabbit hole to Army officer Lee Shaw (played by Kurt Russell and Wyatt Russell), taking place in the 1950s and half a century later, where Monarch is threatened by what Shaw knows.

Season two picked up with the fate of Monarch — and the world — hanging in the balance. The dramatic saga reveals buried secrets that reunite our heroes (and villains) on Kong’s Skull Island, and a new, mysterious village where a mythical Titan rises from the sea. The ripple effects of the past make waves in the present day, blurring the bonds between family, friend and foe — all with the threat of a titan event on the horizon.

Based on the Monsterverse from Legendary, this dramatic saga — spanning three generations — reveals buried secrets and the ways that epic, earth-shattering events can reverberate through our lives.
