With the first spinoff from Monarch: Legacy of Monsters set to begin filming in the next couple of weeks, let’s take a look at what we know about the third Monsterverse TV series (yes, I count Kong: Skull Island).
The new series, which is currently tagged as Red Monarch (you’ll see why in a second), will act as a sequel of sorts to Monarch and will also star Wyatt Russell, left, as Colonel Lee Shaw; it will be set in 1984, against the backdrop of the Cold War, and will have Shaw trying to stop the soviets from unleashing a new Titan which could win the war for them.
In a recent interview, which you can watch below, executive producer Tory Tunnell dropped some fun details about the series, which further expands the already vast Monsterverse.
Tidbit:
An alleged synopsis for Godzilla X Kong: Supernova has made its way online:
As the sixth installment in the ‘MonsterVerse’ film series, this movie will delve deeper into the delicate relationship of coexistence and trust between humans and prehistoric behemoths. Meanwhile, the earth-shaking monster storm triggered by the epic clash between Godzilla and Kong, the two guardians of Earth’s ecological balance, will once again sweep across the big screen!
Godzilla X Kong: Supernova will release on March 26, 2027
The series will run for ten episodes and will be fully standalone, meaning that, if you’ve not seen Monarch, it will still be accessible and will make sense to you. Additionally, while it will touch on time travel – don’t panic, remember Monarch did this too, and it makes sense in that world – it won’t go full-MCU and feature multiverses or alternate realities.
While the series will act as a Monarch sequel, it will not replace Monarch: Season 3, which is expected to be announced very soon; it’s also hinted that Apple TV still has big plans for the Monsterverse, and there could be a new show as often as every year.
Bring it on… but, em, could we have a bit more monster action in the upcoming shows? Titans were a bit thin on the ground in Monarch’s first two seasons.
Thoughts? I know you have them, and I wanna hear ’em all.
