The Rocketeer is coming back to screens! But don’t get too excited yet…
Disney have shared the first image from their new Rocketeer 3D CGI animated series (below) a it will “depart substantially” from Dave Steven’s comic series and the pretty damned awesome 1991 movie.
So what will the new series be, exactly?
Nancy Kanter, EVP of Content and Creative Strategy for Disney Channels Worldwide, and General Manager for Disney Junior Worldwide explained: “It’s a piece of IP that is very alive at Disney and we imagined who could be the Rocketeer for this generation of kids.”
The Rocketeer will follow a young girl named Kit who receives a surprise birthday package revealing she’s next in line to become the Rocketeer, a legendary superhero who can take the skies with the help of a rocket-powered jetpack. Joining her on her adventures will be her “gadget-minded” best friend Tesh and her airplane mechanic uncle Ambrose.
The new series will be aimed at 2-5-year-olds and it will air on Disney Junior and will see each episode consisting of two 11 minute episodes.
Footage was screened for the folks at Variety who described it thusly: An early animation test was screened for the audience who got to see the series lead, six-year-old Kit Seacourt, trying out her new gear, which ended with a line that seems likely to be repeated, “Never fear, I’m the Rocketeer!”
Look, we have no issues with The Rocketeer being a girl, or the new series aimed at kids (it’s not like we don’t enjoy Ben Ten, Stephen Universe, Adventure Time etc) but 2-5-year-olds! Come on…
Sorry, got a bit irregular there. What say you all?
