Details drop on the new Star Trek animated series from CBS

May 1st, 2019 by Marc Comments

We’ve known for a while that CBS had planned on expanding their Star Trek canon with a new animated series and now we have some details.

The series will join the other animated series Lower Decks along with the live-action Discovery, Jean Luc-Picard series and the Sector-13 spinoff.

The CG series is being developed by Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark’s Dan and Kevin Hageman and will follow a group of lawless teens who discover a derelict Starfleet ship and use it to search for adventure, meaning and salvation.

“Star Trek, Nickelodeon, and the state of animation are doing incredibly ambitious things as of late,” said Dan and Kevin Hageman.

“We couldn’t be more excited to jump aboard.”

“Star Trek’s mission is to inspire generations of dreamers to build a brighter future,” added Alex Kurtzman.

“Dan and Kevin have crafted a story that honors its exploratory spirit in a way that’s never been done before, while the Nickelodeon team blew us away with their excitement at bringing Trek to a younger generation around the world.”

Honestly, this sounds like it could be a very different take on Trek and could certainly be a lot of fun… we’ll keep ypu posted as we hear more, Trekkies.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
