JJ Abrams isn’t fixing anything in Star Wars Episode IX and Rian Johnson is still working with Lucasfilm…

The closer we get to the end of the year, the closer we get to the Force.

Less than two months from now, the whole world will witness the end to the Skywalker saga with JJ Abrams’ Star Wars : The Rise of Skywalker. The ninth movie in the Star Wars saga will hopefully bring an end to to injustice in the galaxy, especially with JJ’s plan to bring back Galactic Emperor Sheev Palpatine ( Ian McDiarmid).

This decision has been met with some blow back with some fans skeptical if this is the right move, this being said, Abrams has backed his decision: “If you’re looking at the nine films as one story, I don’t know many books where the last few chapters have nothing to do with those that have come before. If you look at the first eight films, all the set-ups of what we’re in IX are there in plain view.”

Now, to me this makes more sense than anything that’s been done in the last two movies, especially when it comes to Snoke.

The last couple of movies have been a bit weird with very little continuity between them; this has something to do with the fact that we got different directors, with Abrams directing VII, then Rian Johnson with VIII, and now back to  Abrams, I mean no offence, but recently Star Wars has had more directors than The Doctor has had companions.

But Abrams maintains he won’t be “repairing” anything that was done in The Last Jedi by Johnson: “If I had done VIII, I would have done things differently, just as Rian would have done things differently if he had done VII. But having worked on television series, I was accustomed to creating stories and characters that then were run by other people. If you’re willing to walk away from the thing that you created and you believe it’s in trustworthy hands, you have to accept that some of the decisions being made are not gonna be the same that you would make. And if you come back into it, you have to honor what’s been done.”

So with all this still in mind it should also be mentioned that earlier this year, Lucasfilm’s announced that another three Star Wars movies will be done after this, starting in 2022 and being released every year after.

Although for now we can only speculate as to what the next trilogy will be about, it should be known that Rian Johnson is working with Lucasfilm to work out a timeline to see if another original piece can be fit between the timeline. Going of this we can assume that if one would be done we may get to see something about the Grey Jedi, or possibly that child that we saw with the Force in The Last Jedi.

With a vast galaxy, far far away, there are so many stories that can be done, on top of The Rise of Skywalker in December, and next month we will also be gifted with John Favreau’s Mandalorian on Disney+.

Until that time, enjoy these images of the Knights of Ren (from Empire)whom were greatly missed in the last movie but will be a presence to be feared this time. For now stay nerdy folks, and may the force be with you.

Here’s a few more images from Topps giving us closer looks at the Knights and some other characters and ships from the movie:
