Get ready for the new daily show

Disney+ pulled a TRON series before it even got started

You ever have a birthday, Christmas or something similar where someone tells they had panned to get you something but couldn’t find one? And you’re really annoyed because it actually sounds like the think you really, REALLY wanted?

No? Well, I have and it’s a bit of a bitter pill.

And here’s another one.

Ready?

12 Years a Slave and Three Kings writer John Ridley was developing a TRON series at Disney+ which was pulled before it even got off the ground: “before last year’s D23 Expo, /Film heard that it was going to be announced at that convention, but just days before the presentation, the studio decided not to go ahead with the announcement. Ridley had reportedly been working on it for several months when it was given the ax”

While nothing has officially been released about the now-not-happening series, it’s not as if there’s not plenty to go from.

Fans will remember that the second TRON movie, TRON Legacy, set up Cillian Murphy as a potential villain in the third – also canned movie – on top of that, around the same time the excellent animated series TRON: Uprising was left on a cliffhanger too because its plot was covering similar territory as the planned third movie, which means the movie AND the series were both pulled and neither was resolved and now it seems a new series, which could have pulled it all together, is now also gone. Before it started.

Ridley has apparently been developing the series for numerous months before it was derezzed.

Disney+ seems like the perfect home for a TRON series, giving it the potential to develop and explore the world created on TRON but really opened up in TRON Legacy.

Hopefully Disney will see the folly of their ways because I – and I know I’m not alone – would love to see more adventures on The Grid.

Word is the third movie gets some air every now and again at Disney with Jared Leto tipped to star but at this stage I’d say it’s very unlikely we’ll see more TRON any time soon.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
