So far the only title we’ve had for the fourth Matrix movie was The Matrix 4 but we assumed all along that that wouldn’t be the final name for the movie… and it seems we were right.
The movie, which arrives on HBO Max and in cinemas before Christmas, has wrapped and it seems that gifts given to the production crew had the title Matrix Resurrections on them.
This would make a lot of sense given that last two sequels were The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions and this movie sees the return of Keanue Reeves’ Neo – The One – who is basically a thinly veiled Christ metaphor, hence Resurrections – the plural being a nod to the fact that Carrie-Anne Moss is back as Trinity too along with Jada Pinkett Smith and Lambert Wilson.
Joining the cast is Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Neil Patrick Harris, Jessica Henwick, Priyanka Chopra, Jonathan Groff, Toby Onwumere, Max Riemelt, Eréndira Ibarra, Andrew Caldwell, Brian J. Smith, and Ellen Hollman.
The Matrix 4 opens in theaters and debuts on HBO Max on December 22nd.
