Ruby Rose would return as Batwoman for The CW series…

March 16th, 2021 by Marc Comments

Well, what have we here?

You may recall that at the end of The CW’s Batwoman season one star Ruby Rose stood down from the title role of Batwoman/Kate Kane (here), surprising fans and leading the role to be recast.

And, rather than continue the character with a different actress, The CW decided to go a very different direction, casting black actress Javicia Leslie as Batwoman/Ryan Wilder and basically just writing Rose’s character out and passing the mantle on to a new character. The mantle of the Batman, just being passed around. Yup.

Anyway, it seems that Rose stepped down due to being very unhappy with the filming of the series and yet, the actress has now said she’d be prepared to return… if only just to wrap up her story in the Arrowverse.

“I would totally [return to the show],” Rose says in a new interview.

“I don’t think it would serve the story because I think building the new Batwoman is more important than going back too far into Kate Kane, but of course I would, I would absolutely do anything they wanted as far as that [Laughs].”

On the new show, the actress said: “It’s such a beautiful thing to be able to watch.

“I haven’t watched the whole thing, but I’ve watched a couple episodes, and I think how they’re handling it is beautiful. And I think, it’s like, [Leslie’s] time to shine.”

This is something of an about-face from when she left, as the overall feeling was that things ended badly… but it seems this is not the case.

Personally, I’m not up on the new series yet as I’ve fallen waaaaaaay behind on the Arrowverse, but I think bringing Rose back of for nothing else than closure on her character and the plot of the new series which, I’m led to believe, is about working out where her character went.

On top of this, it’s no secret that Batwoman’s ratings are plummeting at the minute, so maybe bringing Rose back sould be a ratings winner too.

CW deleted Rose from the line-up of the Arrowverse’s Justice League in a recent special, but it sounds like there is no bad blood. Instead, what we have here might be a vain attempt by the network and producers to push out of people’s minds, to a degree, the fact that Rose ever was Batwoman.

This comes a couple of weeks after The CW edited her out of the heroes line-up – Earth Prime’s Justice League – in the last episode of last year’s big crossover event Crisis On Infinite Earths, which you can compare below. It is believed this is not a bad blood thing but rather a likeness rights issue… so it’s not as awful as it seemed.

Would you like to see her return to the role? Let me know your thoughts, folks…
