Star Wars star Oscar Isaac, no stranger to big franchises, has been chatting about why, after getting his fingers burned in X-Men: Apocalypse, he’s prepared to jump back into the world of Marvel heroes.
After playing Apocalypse in the Fox X-Men movie, you might think he’d be reluctant to jump right back in but, nope, it seems he’s loving playing one of Marvel’s coolest antiheroes.
“Every morning, the alarm goes off, and I can’t wait to get to work. We’re having such a great time,” he says of the filming
“With this – I love the people involved. I thought there was an incredibly unusual story to tell within the world of, you know, the superhero language. But we’re making something that’s quite different, and that doesn’t follow the same… not necessarily even logic of what a lot of superhero films do.”
“I think because of that, I just found an opportunity to do something that I’ve not done at all yet, and to have a lot of creative collaboration with the rest of the people making it.”
On the topic of Moon Knight, the image, left, is reportedly the suit we’ll see Isaac wear while fighting evil in these series… it certainly looks unique within the MCU and faithful to the character he’s portraying.
In the comics Moon Knight’s real name is Marc Spector a mercenary/soldier who becomes the human embodiment of Khonshu, the Egyptian god of the moon. His powers include strength and agility coupled with his military knowledge and detective skills, so this could be a cracking character to take to the screen.
The series will be directed by Egyptian film-maker Mohamed Diab who directed the acclaimed 2016 movie Clash and it will be show-ran and co-written by The Umbrella Academy’s Jeremy Slater.
Isaac is, of course, no stranger to Marvel having played Apocalypse in the X-Men franchise a few years ago under 20th Century Fox.
However, the Marvel connections don’t end there, as the star also played Spider-man 2099 in Sony’s Into the Spider-verse animated movie in 2018 and, if the rumours I’m hearing are true, Sony are looking him to portray the character in an upcoming live-action movie too.
