Yes! Finally, in what feels like a never-ending storm of bad DC news, we finally have a story that we think many will be able to get behind… Keanu Reeves’ 2005 Constantine movie is getting a sequel.
For some time now there have been rumours and leaks suggesting that a Constantine sequel is happening, with Reeves himself saying on several occasions that he’d love to return to the character, saying “I would love to play John Constantine again from the Constantine film,” and revealing he has tried several times to get a sequel greenlit.
Then, in 2020 Peter Stormare, who played Lucifer in the movie, said on social media (here) that a sequel was in development but, well, it’s been a crazy couple of years and now we get the news that Stormare was spot on!
But now it’s officially revealed that Reeves and director of the first movie, Francis Lawrence, are reuniting on a sequel with Akiva Goldsman penning it.
There’s very little else known about the movie at this stage.
We loved the first movie – I actually re-watched it during lockdown and it’s a very fun piece of cinema and, while there’s no denying Reeves’ Constantine is very different from his comicbook counterpart fans seemed to have embraced the movie nonetheless and I for one, am looking forward to this. Could we see Reeves’ Constantine becoming the DCEU’s Contstantine? Seems unlikely but it’s certainly fun to think about…
