No retreat, no surrender, indeed.
After years in development hell, the Galaxy Quest TV series, based on the wonderful movie starring Tim Allen, Alan Rickman and Sigourney Weaver, is finally getting off the ground at Paramount+, which is also the home of Star Trek, the very franchise Galaxy Quest so wonderfully spoofed.
For years, this series was redevelopment as a direct sequel to the movie which saw the cast of the hit fictional TV series Galaxy Quest be mistaken by an oppressed alien race as their onscreen counterparts who they abducted in the hope they can help them defeat an evil conqueror from destroying them and their home… a task they, against all odds, manage to successfully pull off.
Originally a sequel movie was planned at Amazon with original writer Robert Gordon attached but sadly it never appeared. a few years later, the story was envisioned as a TV series with the original cast attached but sadly, the death of Alan Rickman put these plans on hold
In 2021 Allen said the series was still planned (here) and then later that same year we learned Simon Pegg was developing a take on the franchise (here).
This new series is still at the planning stage, so we don’t know if the surviving cast will be involved or if this is a sequel/reboot/reimaging but we’re certainly interested to find out and by Grabthar’s Hammer, we’ll keep you up date on developments as we get them.
