WATCH: Bird Box sequel/Sidequel Bird Box Barcelona gets announcement trailer

In today’s installment of ‘things I didn’t know were coming’ is the sequel/sidequel to 2018’s massive Netflix hit, Bird Box.

Based on the novel by Josh Malerman, the original saw Sandra Bullock and two young children she took under her wing, trying to get to a safe place in a world where things so horrible had invaded that just one glance at them made you go into a suicidal and/or murderous rampage… it was sort of like Netflix’s answer to a Quiet Place and, while not exactly high art, it was a lot of fun.

This new movie, Bird Box Barcelona takes place – surprise! – in Barcelona, is in Spanish language and chronicles, like the first movie, the day the invasion happened and the world became a very dangerous place to live.

I wasn’t the biggest fan of the first movie but this seems like perfect Friday night in front of the telly with some popcorn fodder and sometimes that’s just what you need.

After a mysterious force decimates the world’s population by causing all who see it to take their lives, Sebastian and his young daughter Anna must navigate their own journey of survival through the desolate streets of Barcelona. But as they form an uneasy alliance with other survivors and make their way toward a safe haven, a threat more sinister than the unseen creatures grows.

The Spanish language film is written and directed by Alex and David Pastor. The film stars Mario Casas, Georgina Campbell, Diego Calva, Alejandra Howard, Naila Schuberth, Patrick Criado, Celia Freijeiro with Lola Dueñas, Gonzalo de Castro, Michelle Jenner and Leonardo Sbaraglia.

He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
