The much better than it had any right to be, Dexter: Original Sin may have only ended its first season last week, but Dexter Morgan’s world is looking like it’s set to get much, much bigger – and I’m not just talking about Dexter: Resurrection which is due before the end of the year.
Just before 2025 kicked off, I reported on a proposed Dexter series focusing on the Trinity Killer, played by the superb John Lithgow in season four of the original Dexter series but while – SPOILER – Dexter ended Trinity in that series, the new show would focus on a young Trinity, similar to how Original Sin focuses on young Dexter Morgan.
But that’s not all, it seems.
Trinity Killer prequel Dexter spin-off ‘written and ready to go’ – John Lithgow to return
With Original Sin having proven to be a big success and a second season looking very possible right now and a new series with older Dexter returning, you might well ask, how could Dexter’s world get any bigger? Well, it seems it absolutely can.
Industry insider Daniel Richtman is reporting that Paramount has big plans to expand Dexter’s roster of characters, similar to the Yellowstone spinoff, claiming that more Dexter prequels are planned and ‘that characters from Dexter: Resurrection—potentially even ones we haven’t met yet—could receive their own spin-offs’.
While I am very much of the opinion that there’s a real danger of Dexter’s world being bled dry until its barely recognisable, I, having now seen and loved Original Sins, would be more than happy to give these creatives the opportunity to delve further into this twisted world with spinoffs, sequels and prequels.
The Trinity Killer would definitely be a fun one – did anyone catch the Trinity reference in Original Sin? – and would be a great way of testing if the Dexter Expanded Universe is a winning idea.
Thoughts? I want to hear them, Dexter fans.
