Get ready to turn that dial all the way up… to 11! Again!
The first teaser has dropped for Spinal Tap II: The End Continues, sequel to 1984’s iconic rock documentary starring Christopher Guest, Michael McKean and Harry Shearer along with Rob Reiner as film-maker Marti DiBergi.
The story will see DiBergi reuniting with the band for their final tour, marking the 41st anniversary of the first movie. It turns out the band didn’t like the first documentary and it seems that DiBergi is on a mission to make it up to them with a second one.
A sequel to iconic rock mockumentary This Is Spinal Tap is in the works. Did not see that coming.
Reiner recently spoke to Empire Magazine about what the band has been doing in the years since the first movie: “Nigel has been running a cheese and guitar shop in Berwick-upon-Tweed. He’s also been performing with a local folk band in the village that play penny whistle and mandolin, and he plays electric guitar with them.
“David St Hubbins has been living in Morro Bay in California, and he’s been writing music for podcasts, particularly this one true-crime podcast called ‘The Trouble With Murder.’ He also writes the music that you hear when you’re on hold on the phone.
“Derek is living in London and is now the curator of the New Museum of Glue. He’s curated glue from every country in the world – the whole history of glue – and he shows me around. He’s also been performing with a philharmonic orchestra, and he’s written this kind of symphony about the fact that the devil wears a bad hair piece. It’s called Hell Toupée.”

I have to confess that This Is Spinal Tap, while celebrated by many, was a movie I just couldn’t get into and I love Christopher Guest’s movies, so with this coming in September, I might try to revisit it again ahead of going to see this one.
The magic might yet be there for me to discover.
