BBC release press release about THAT ending to Doctor Who UPDATED: Did Eccleston predict this?

May 31st, 2025 by Marc Comments

As what was without question the worst era in Doctor Who’s long history comes to an end and the 15th Doctor, played by Ncuti Gatwa, seemingly regenerates into a very familiar face, we have to ask… what the actual f@#k?!

We’d already heard the rumours that Gatwa was gone at the end of this season and that he would regenerate into Billie Piper, who played Rose Tyler for several years in the series when she became the companion to Christopher Eccleston’s Doctor back in 2005 but, I’ll be honest, I didn’t believe it.

I was wrong.

Gatwa just regenerated into Piper.

And we have no idea what that means as a press release suggests that this might not actally be the doctor at all, saying: “But just how and why she is back remains to be seen.”

Check out the press release below.

Press release:

As everyone said farewell to the 15th Doctor, they also got sight of a very familiar face as the Doctor regenerated and it was none other than Billie Piper…

Billie first appeared in the Whoniverse when Doctor Who returned to screens in 2005, as Rose Tyler, the much-loved Companion to the Doctor played by Christopher Eccleston and David Tennant. But just how and why she is back remains to be seen…

Speaking of the surprise twist, Russell T Davies adds: “Billie once changed the whole of television, back in 2005, and now she’s done it again! It’s an honour and a hoot to welcome her back to the TARDIS, but quite how and why and who is a story yet to be told. After 62 years, the Doctor’s adventures are only just beginning!”

Doctor Who on verge of cancellation? Gatwa ready to walk?

Speaking of her return, Billie says: “It’s no secret how much I love this show, and I have always said I would love to return to the Whoniverse as I have some of my best memories there, so to be given the opportunity to step back on that TARDIS one more time was just something I couldn’t refuse, but who, how, why and when, you’ll just have to wait and see.”

Doctor Who is produced by Bad Wolf with BBC Studios for the BBC and Disney Branded Television.

UPDATE:

At Denver Fan Expo in 2021, former Doctor Christopher Eccleston was asked about Doctor Who, and he discussed Russell T Davies’ return and that there’s only one choice for the next Doctor… Billie Piper!
