Original co-creator set to write (live-action) Lilo & Stitch sequel

Big news for fans of Lilo & Stitch as the live-action sequel gets a big name on board as writer.

My all-time favourite Disney animated movie, Lilo & Stitch is just such a delight from start to finish and as much as I didn’t expect to be saying this, the live-action version, while nowhere near as good, isn’t as utterly dire as many of Disney’s live-action updates and with it recently becoming first Hollywood movie of 2025 to cross the billion-dollar mark at the worldwide box office, it’s no surprise the big guns are coming out – or coming back, in this case – for the sequel.

Co-creator/writer/director of the 2002 original Lilo and Stitch, Chris Sanders (who also voices Stitch in all versions) is looking set to write the live-action sequel.

Sanders has a long history in animation, including The Wild Robot (and its planned sequel), How to Train Your Dragon, and The Croods, so his involvement in this project will be most welcome.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
