Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool almost appeared in the DCU, says Gunn

One of the things fans of the MCU and DCU/DCEU have wanted for a long time is a crossover of the two universes on the big screen and we very nearly got it thanks to James Gunn, the overseer of the DCU and the man who directed the Guardians of the Galaxy movie over at Marvel.

In the season finale of Peacemaker season 2, Full Nelson, when we were getting peeks at the various dimensions that circled the DCU, we almost got to see… Deadpool?

Shawn Levy talks developing a Stranger Things cinematic universe with Kevin Feige… and Deadpool?!

In a recent pressconference about Peacemaker, Gunn revealed that when the scene was taking place in Peacemaker’s Quantum Unfolding Chamber, Gunn wanted to let fans know that in the DCU, theMCU might only be a doorway away: “I wanted them to open the door and see Deadpool in a room,” Gunn said, “and I talked to Ryan Reynolds about it, but I think we would’ve had to go through some pretty big hoops to do that! He wanted to do it.”

Reynolds himself is no stranger to the world(s) of DC, having played Green Lantern in Martin Campbell’s (somewhat unfairly) maligned 2011 movie, which Reynolds also wrote.

Gunn went on to say that the legal loopholes made the appearance utterly impossible and, in the end, it’s probably for the best, realising that even just saying it was a possible mistake: “That’s all anybody’s going to talk about now. Is f@$king Deadpool in the other room? I should have never said it!”

Well, in fairness, I’m sat writing it, so he’s likely not far off…

Thoughts? I know you have them and I wanna hear ’em all!
