If, like me, you loved Sinners last summer, then you’re probably also like me, pretty excited for Ryan Coogler’s delving into The X-Files as his next project.

Coogler has been teasing the project for some time now, but finally, he’s given some exciting updates on the iconic show’s return.

With The Woman in the Yard and Carry On’s Danielle Deadwyler rumored to be stepping into one of the show’s two lead roles, in a new interview, Coogler is potentially teasing original stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson’s return as Mulder and Scully, saying: “I’m a big fan of Gillian’s, I’m a big fan of David’s. That’s all I can say…”

Duchovny and Anderson’s return for the show seems like a no-brainer and it will also will confirm that the series will follow the Buffy the Vampire Slayer route and is a continuation of the original show and not yet another reboot.

“We intend on having both monsters of the week and also the overarching conspiracy […] it wouldn’t be X-Files if we didn’t do both,” Coogler confirms, before clarifying that he will be re-opening The X-Files before he returns to Wakanda: “That’s what I’m doing now. Black Panther 3 comes after that,” he says,

This is pretty exciting news and, with casting seemingly underway and Coogler talking a solid plan for the show, including the possible return of Mulder and Scully, it seems we might all be heading to the FBI’s basement sooner than expected.

Thoughts? I know you have them and I wanna hear ’em all.
