Scream 8 finds its writers but seeks a director…

April 7th, 2026 by Marc Comments

We knew it was coming, but Scream 8 is officially a-go, with writers in place for the next outing of everyone’s favourite masked killer(s).

While Scream 7 was disappointing in many ways, it did show that there’s still a lot of story still to be told with Neve Campbell’s Sidney Evans (née Prescott) and her new family, especially Joel McHale’s husband Mark and Isabel May’s daughter, Tatum, and I’m still very excited to know that that story will carry on, and sooner than we thought.

It’s been officially revealed that the showrunners of Poker Face and writers of the recently cancelled Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot, Nora and Lilla Zuckerman will be scripting Ghostface’s latest attempt to slice and dice.

to be fair to the sisters, they also wrote episodes of Agents of SHIELD, Suits, Fringe, and Prodigal Son, so there’s a lot of talent involved.

Tidbit:

A new rumour is doing the rounds online that a fan asked Neve Campbell about Scream 8 and the star said the movie is set to start filming this Fall. Take this with a grain of salt for now.

With the latest movie making over $200m and pushing the franchise into the $1bn club, it likely wasn’t hard for the studio to work out that Ghostface still puts bums on seats.

With the new writers now in place, the other big question is, will Scream 7 director – and franchise creator – Kevin Williamson return to helm? Well, no.

In a recent interview, Williamson was asked about returning for more Ghostface hijinx, to which he replied: “Not Scream, no.

“I want to direct another film that I had written that is just waiting for me to find the time to direct. And right now, I’m working on a couple TV shows that I’m really excited about. So maybe I’ll direct one of those — who knows? For the next Scream, I’ll probably step back and just be a part of the family again.”

As for the plot of the next movie, he says he has no idea but has a few ideas for whoever is scripting: “I have some ideas of where it could go, but I’m anxious to see what another storyteller could do with it. I hope that we get the chance to do it. It’s nice to be part of the Scream family. That doesn’t mean I always have to be front and centre. I don’t always have to write or direct. Other people can take the reins. I’m excited to see what other storytellers come up with.”

So, there you have it, new writers and, eventually, a new director for Scream 8… thoughts? I know you have them and I wanna hear ’em all.
