Merry Christmas to all and to all, a good night!
The Grinch is coming back to the big screen with Jim Carey and Ron Howard both returning for more festive goodness.
Yes, after 26 years (can you believe it?!), Universal and Imagine Entertainment are finally developing a sequel to The Grinch or, to our US readers, How the Grinch Stole Christmas.
With Carey set to put on the green again and Howard looking to return behind the camera, it seems that producer Brian Grazer is also heading back to Whoville.
According to THR: The untitled sequel will have a script by Alec Berg (Barry, Silicon Valley, Curb Your Enthusiasm), Jeff Schaffer (Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness; Dave; Curb Your Enthusiasm) and David Mandel (Veep, Curb Your Enthusiasm). The trio also worked on the 2003 Seuss adaptation The Cat in the Hat starring Mike Myers.
Tidbit:
In 2024, Carey talked about returning as the Grinch:
Jim Carrey talking about wanting to play the Grinch again:
“I had to do that with a ton of makeup and I could hardly breathe… and now with motion capture and things like that, I could be free to do some other things.”

The 2000 original is a staple of the Christmas must-watches in homes all over the globe, so a sequel was always possible, though it taking so long was likely not on anyone’s checklist.
The Grinch was originally written in 1957 by Theodor Geisel, better known as Dr Seuss, as a metaphor for the author’s unhappiness with the commercialism of Christmas and how the true Christian message was lost to many.
If they can capture even a snippet of the magic of the first movie, then I can see this as being one to look forward to, but I think we’re going to have a while yet to wait to find out what became of the Grinch and the Whos all these years later.
Thoughts? I know you have them and I wanna hear ’em all.
