Two of pop culture’s biggest icons are about to crash together later this year and it’s going to be pretty cool!
Yes, G.I. Joe and Lara Croft will crossover for the first time in G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero/Tomb Raider #1 from Kyle Higgins, Elena Casagrande, Alex Guimarães, & Pat Brosseau on October 7.
Croft appeared recently in G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #330, setting up the upcoming crossover and according to AITP: The story sends Lara Croft to Cobra Island in search of the mysterious Arbco Star. To survive the mission, she’ll team up with her old acquaintance Shipwreck and several squads of Joes as they race Destro and Baroness to recover a long-lost treasure.

Writer Kyle Higgins said: “Tomb Raider meets G.I. Joe. Lost artifact, a Destro plot, and a joint infiltration mission to Cobra Island. The appeal of a story like this should be obvious. Having never had the opportunity to work with either, I was quite excited when Alex Antone called to ask me if I’d like to build an adventure for both. We’re taking some really fun swings with both brands, and there are definitely some deep cuts for G.I. Joe fans!”
ROM: The Space Knight officially joins Skybound’s Energon Universe
“We love a surprise at Skybound, and when we were approached by Hasbro about the possibility of introducing Lara Croft to the world of G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero, we were so excited for the opportunity to do something new and unexpected,” said Skybound Editorial Director Alex Antone.
On top of that, Hasbro are releasing a Lara Croft figure, right, in their G.I Joe Classified Series later this year and it’s already one of the year’s most sought-after figures, having gone on sale just over a day ago.

I love a good crossover and this one has me excited although, I have to confess, when I first saw the announcement from Skybound Comics, below, I thought the Tomb Raider was headed for the Energon Universe and that had me really stoked… though now that she exists in this world, I wouldn’t rule out, licensing etc allowing, a Lara Croft appearance in that world at some point too.
Either way, this is a very exciting crossover and it could lead to all sorts of crossovers in the future.
