The force is not strong with these

According to a reliable source withing Kotaku Disney has decided to shut down long running video game studio LucasArts cancelling all known projects and laying off all of the staff.

The Source claims that both games that the studio was working on, Star Wars 1313 and Star Wars: First Assault have now been cancelled and that all 150 staff that were working on both games have now been laid off.

The studio which was bought by Disney thanks to them now owning Lucas Films was told to freeze all hiring and product announcements last fall and that the people working there were unsure about there future.  Now it’s official that the long running studio is no more and that the workers will now have to seek out new employment.

What is your reaction too this news, were you looking forward to Star Wars 1313 which showed a lot of promise at last years E3, let us know in the comments below.

*UPDATE* A statement has been released by a spokesperson and it says “After evaluating our position in the games market, we’ve decided to shift LucasArts from an internal development to a licensing model, minimizing the company’s risk while achieving a broader portfolio of quality Star Wars games,” it went on to say “As a result of this change, we’ve had layoffs across the organization. We are incredibly appreciative and proud of the talented teams who have been developing our new titles.”
