RUMOR: The Guardians of the Galaxy may have a villain and he’s the controlling type.

I thought the Guardians of the Galaxy news was done for the day. On the heels of the Zoe Saldana talks for the Gamora role, Latino Review has a feeling that Thanos will not be alone when he comes after the Avengers during Phase 2 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The latest rumor is that the Controller will be serving as Thanos’ right hand man and ambassador in 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy.

The Controller was born Basil Sandhurst, an electro-mechanical/chemical research scientist. After his brother Vincent inadvertently triggered a lab explosion, crippling him, Basil bonded a super-strong exoskeleton to his body, powered by the cerebral energies from those around him using his slave discs. He then used technology to master the art of mind control, coming into conflict with both Iron Man and S.H.I.E.L.D. Later on he crossed paths with Thanos, who upgraded his tech and offered him rulership of Earth in exchange for temporary servitude. Their plan failed of course thanks to Captain Mar-Vell, and Thanos left the Controller for dead. The Controller hasn’t reaaly been heard of since then.

While the Controller isn’t a A list type villain, his powers and Earthly origin would work well. Keep in mind that this movie will likely have tons of CG, especially Groot and Rocket Raccoon, so a villain in a suit with mental powers is an easy fix. The role of “ambassador” to Thanos also makes sense given the  Mad Titan’s interest in Earth.

So who should play him?
