You may not know Phil Tippett by name, but you most certainly know his work. He was hired by George Lucas to work on the original Star Wars trilogy and was responsible for creating and stop-motion animating the AT-ATs, the tauntauns and later some of the creatures in Return of the Jedi (winning his first Oscar). He also was hired by Steven Spielberg to supervise the animation of the dinosaurs for Jurassic Park (winning another Oscar).
Although none of the following films in either franchise brought him back, director Colin Trevorrow has confirmed that Tippett will return for the upcoming Jurassic World via Twitter with a simple Welcome back, Phil:
That of course is the legend posing with a maquette of the T-Rex from the Jurassic World production office.
Bryce Dallas Howard, Ty Simpkins, Jake Johnson, Nick Robinson and Irrfan Khan have been cast with Chris Pratt rumored to take the lead role. Steven Spielberg returns to produce. Trevorrow directs the epic action-adventure from a draft of the screenplay he wrote with Derek Connolly.
Jurassic World is set to open on June 12, 2015.
