Captain America: The Winter Soldier directors Anthony and Joe Russo returning for Captain America 3?

January 28th, 2014 by Irwin Fletcher Comments

According to Variety, Marvel is so pleased with their next film, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, that they’ve begun courting directors Anthony and Joe Russo to come back to the helm a third Captain America film.

Negotiations between the pair and the studio won’t officially begin until after the sequel opens, but the trade reports that Marvel and the Russos are currently putting together an outline for the third film’s story which would see Chris Evans reprise his role of Steve Rogers once again. They also add that many of the actors have options for a third installment as well.

It’s probably safe to assume that Cap 3 will take the May 6th or July 8th 2016 date that Marvel has for Phase 3.

What do you think of the director pair coming back if true?

The story of Captain America: The Winter Soldier picks up where Marvel’s The Avengers left off, as Steve Rogers struggles to embrace his role in the modern world and teams up with Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow, to battle a powerful yet shadowy enemy in present-day Washington D.C.

The Anthony and Joe Russo directed film stars Chris Evans, Sebastian Stan, Scarlet Johansson, Anthony Mackie, Frank Grillo, Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders, Toby Jones, Emily VanCamp, Hayley Atwell, Maximiliano Hernández, Robert Redford, and Georges St-Pierre.

The movie hits theaters on April 4th, 2014.
