Doom 4 is not a sequel…

July 21st, 2014 by Marc Comments

Doom fans attending QuakeCon in Dallas last week were treated to Bethesda and developer id Software’s presentation on the next installment.

And it was revealed there that the game was not a sequel but rather a reboot. A WHAT?! Yes, you read that right.

And it seems that, despite the dreaded word, this is going to be a great addition to the series. Boody Disgusting reports: “For starters, the health and armor pick-ups from the first three games will return. If you were hoping id would employ the health regeneration mechanic now used in most modern shooters, that may be a bit disappointing. Me? I prefer it.

“The focuses on big, inventive weapons is still very much a priority, and executive producer Marty Stratton did confirm that we’ll be able to carry them all at once. It sounds like we’ll need them, as the game’s other staple — gargantuan hell-spawn monsters — will also return.

“Doom is set in a UAC research facility on Mars. It’s guaranteed to look super pretty thanks to it’s being powered by id Tech 6, or id Tech 666, as the team jokingly refers to it. It also sounds like there is a pretty heavy emphasis on melee combat, and even brutal finishing moves that can be used on enemies, and even bosses.”
