Neil Marshall Wants To Make A Black Widow Movie?

August 24th, 2014 by Todd Black Comments

When it comes to Marvel’s huge lineup of movies, there’s very few things that they haven’t done. The one exception that many have noted is that they don’t have a film with a female lead. The two most likely candidates for such a film have been Captain Marvel/Ms. Marvel, aka Carol Danvers, and everyone’s favorite red-headed spy, Black Widow. Well, if accomplished filmmaker Neil Marshall, who also happens to be making the Constantine pilot, has anything to say about it, he’d love to direct a movie about the latter of the two.

According to Dark Horizons, the filmmaker said, “Yes, I’d love to do a big splashy movie with a great female lead, but it has to be someone I can believe in. I would love to do a Black Widow movie. That’s perfect, I would love to do that. That character is really interesting, she doesn’t have any superpowers, she just has extraordinary skills, and the world that she comes from, being this ex-K.G.B. assassin, I find that really fascinating, yeah.”

The curious thing Neil Marshall notes though, is that he would rather do a superhero film about a person with no powers, rather than one with:

“I’m less interested in people with superpowers because I can’t identify with them. Very rarely do they get killed off, and when they do get killed off, chances are they’re going to be back… somehow.”

Very true in some cases. And while this is hardly confirmation that such a thing will happen, it is good to know that there is someone who wants to make a Marvel movie with a female lead. Hopefully Marvel will make the move to let this happen.
