When Marvel announced that their next big movie was going to be…*drumroll* Guardians of the Galaxy! Wait, what? Myself, along with most people, just didn’t know what the heck Guardians was all about, let alone had read any of their stories! As soon as I saw Marvel was bringing the Guardians into the Marvel NOW! universe, I just HAD to get my hands on it!

The first thing I noticed when I started reading the series was how fun it was! Brian Michael Bendis has all-but taken over the Marvel Universe, and most of his stories are filled with a lot of darkness and universe-changing events. While the latter is still true of this book, it’s anything but dark. This book, featuring a rag-tag bunch of heroes, has become one of my favorite books every month. Whether its wisecracking Rocket Raccoon saving the day at the last minute, the Captain Kirk-ian antics of Peter Quill, or Groot kicking ass while spouting off his catchphrase, ‘I am Groot.’, there’s something in this series for everyone.

The entire universe is building towards the upcoming Infinity event, and Guardians is no exception. This is a build-up issue that really doesn’t answer a ton of questions about Peter and his gang, but it does a nice job of keeping us entertained until Infinity starts. Whether you read this for the comedy or the action, this issue has a bit of both!

Sarah Pichelli is a great artist. From conveying emotions to the grand action sequences, she pulls it all off without a hitch. It’s rare to find a book that pulls off both so beautifully, but this book makes it look easy!

As I said before, this is definitely a build-up issue, but it doesn’t feel like filler. This is the best book that Bendis is writing, simply because its so different from everything else in the Marvel U. If you’re a fan of sci-fi and a good time, you need to be reading this series!!!
