Saga, the comic that will make your jaw drop in one way or another, is at it again. This time though I wasn’t expecting it.

That is what I love so much about this comic. I never know where it is going. The writing surprises me at every turn of the page. I don’t deny that the love story between Alana and Marko is what got me hooked on the comic, I’m a girl, and it’s what we do. The art though, that is what made me pick it up. Fiona Staples is the perfect choice for this book. The cover is lovely, and looks like a romance novel. She never fails to make each page look like a painting. Countess Robot X got a beautiful splash page and what a great start to the story! Robot X gives us a little back-story on Alana after slaying a Dragon, and also makes us realize that she is much more powerful than we can even imagine.

Alana, Marko, Hazel and Klara are still living with Dr. Heist. Klara suggests that Alana should be providing and working and that they need to think about getting jobs. Alana takes offense to it, and at the same time I think deep down, she knows she must. I like that Alana, as hardcore as she is, loves nothing more then staying home and doing domestic things. My favorite part though, is Alana and Klara arm wrestling. Klara was upset and impressed that she lost considering she is twice Alana’s age. I love the banter between these two. They both love Marko, and so they will do anything to protect him.

I must say though I am most impressed with the Sophia, The Will, and Gwen storyline. Sophia was rescued by The Will and Gwen when she was just a 6 year old slave girl. They have created a bond with her, that’s what makes this story line so important. They have been trying to kill Alana and Marko, but they also have their own problems to deal with. I can help but feel for these characters. The Will is still upset over Stalk’s death, but she has been appearing to him, talking to him. He is the only one that can see her though.  I was hoping he was moving on with Gwen, because I think that would totally work. Their ship is on the way to being fixed so they can complete their mission. It almost seemed like Vaughan was trying to wrap up some story lines until the last few pages. I won’t spoil it, but I didn’t expect it at all!

Saga continues to be one of the best ongoing comics being made right now. With Staples and Vaughan at the helm, bringing the heat, it is easy to see why it is doing so well. I highly recommend it!
