SDCC 2017: WATCH The Walking Dead Season 8 teaser blew our minds PLUS Roberk Kirkman talks the comic’s end

July 22nd, 2017 by Marc Comments

More goodies from SDCC 2018! This time for The Walking Dead fans in the audience…

The trailer shows Rick and the people of Alexandria and beyond getting ready to take the battle to Negan and his henchmen and there’s zombies! Daryl blowing things up! Gore! Negan… and a final scene that may blow your mind!

Spoilers from here:

The final scene shows Rick waking up as a much older man lying in a bed.

Now, we know there’s a time jump in the comics but the way this is set up is clearly trying to make us think it’s the hospital bed he’s lying in in the first episode when he wakes to find the world is a zombie nightmare.

Could they possibly be hinting that The Walking Dead might ‘do a Dallas’ and have the events nothing more than the coma nightmare of a man who’s been out of the world for a number of years?

We doubt it, but man that shot has tongues wagging.

Which is weird because just last night, creator of The Walking Dead comic, Robert Kirkman hinted that the long running comic has an ending and it may be coming to it: “I think about two or three years ago, I had a pretty good idea for a definitive ending,” he told those in attendance. “I have known that since then and been working towards that, so I know exactly where I’m going and what’s gonna happen when I get there.

“There was an ending I had in mind that I was thinking, ‘Oh this would be kind of a cool ending.’ I got to a point where it should’ve happened and I was like, ‘I’m not done yet.’ And this was before the show.

“It got to a point where I would’ve had to start building to it and I was like, ‘Nah.’ So, I just threw that out and then I just kept going because I had all kinds of cool stuff I wanted to do.”

Now obviously we’re not saying the end of the comic means the end of the TV series or vice-versa, but you have to admit, there’s a bit of a coincidence here, no?

Anyway… what say you all? Am I clutching at straws (I never rule it out, in fairness…).
