Will Damian ‘Robin’ Wayne make a return?

July 3rd, 2013 by Irwin Fletcher Comments

It looks like everyone’s favorite homicidal child might not be as gone for good as we thought.

According to a report by the New York Post, a long rumored Damian Wayne mini-series by Andy Kubert is finally coming to fruition. The series, entitled Damian: Son of Batman, will be four issues long, and will explore the future that might have been for our snarky sidekick. Does this mean we will be seeing more of the highly popular Batman 666?

The article also quotes Kubert as claiming that readers will see Damian in a different light than they have before. “I had a big affinity for Damian when I drew Batman issue #666 (in 2007),” Kubert told Parallel Worlds. “I really liked that Batman (666 Batman) and always wanted to revisit him. Damian is a bit different than the ‘Bruce Wayne’ Batman. Grant Morrison tweaked his character in a way that made it very endearing for me to draw. And to write…Basically, what I’m doing is exploring the path that Damian has taken to become Batman. I think readers will see him in a different light than before,”

Considering he was seen as a changed heart and a hero at the time of his death, how exactly will he be ‘different’, and will that be a good thing? It will be interesting for sure, especially since it was such an event that he was killed, and thus far there have been no plans to bring him back to life. Regardless, as a fan of Damian and as a fan of the 666 Universe, I cannot wait for this. I know I can’t be the only one hoping that some of the other characters we’ve seen Damian interact with in the past grace the pages of the series. Alfred the cat, anyone?

The NY Post cites an October 30, 2013 release date for the title.
