Andrew Garfield on The Amazing Spider-Man 4: “That’s not anything to do with me”

December 10th, 2013 by Irwin Fletcher Comments

Sony’s The Amazing Spider-Man franchise shows no sign of slowing down as they have already set release dates for the next two installments. But maybe somebody forget to tell Peter Parker himself, Andrew Garfield, as he says he isn’t sure about a fourth outing as the character. When Yahoo! Movies UK asked him about a fourth film:

“That’s all news to me,” Garfield responded. “I’m under contract for another one after this. As far as a fourth one… that’s not anything to do with me.”

We all thought that the Amazing Spider-Man would result in a trilogy. Marc Webb admits as much in the same video interview:

“We did think about these movies from the very beginning as a series of movies. Really a trilogy to be totally frank.”

Garfield also elaborated on how they’ve expanded the second film from the first one:

“I think there was something missing in the first one because our focus wasn’t on character as much we were trying to keep a number of plates spinning in the air – How can we reintroduce the character? How do we not upset this guy or this guy? That was a tough wasteland we had to move through. Now we could say, ‘who is this guy?’ How can we best serve Spider-Man?'”

Although it’s most likely a negotiating tactic if Garfield were to give up being Spider-Man, who would you like to see as your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man?

It’s great to be Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield). For Peter Parker, there’s no feeling quite like swinging between skyscrapers, embracing being the hero, and spending time with Gwen (Emma Stone). But being Spider-Man comes at a price: only Spider-Man can protect his fellow New Yorkers from the formidable villains that threaten the city. With the emergence of Electro (Jamie Foxx), Peter must confront a foe far more powerful than he. And as his old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, Peter comes to realize that all of his enemies have one thing in common: OsCorp.

The Marc Webb movie stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jaimie Foxx, Dane DeHaan, Campbell Scott, Embeth Davidtz, Colm Feore, Paul Giamatti and Sally Field.

The film is set to swing into theaters May 2nd, 2014. While the third film is currently set for release on June 10, 2016 and a fourth film in the franchise to follow on May 4, 2018.
