ArcadeCon 2014

June 25th, 2014 by Andrew McCarroll Comments

Ireland’s biggest gathering of gamers, geeks and nerds is back. Running from the 10th to the 13th of July at the Ballsbridge Hotel in Dublin. Arcadecon is a truly unique event bringing together all aspects of geek culture including gaming, anime movies, music, comics, sci-fi, cosplay, fantasy, books, board games, panels and special guests. And my what special guests they have in store this year.

Star Trek Voyager and Stargate Atlantis star Robert Picardo will be in attendance, as will Marvel colourist Ruth Redmond.  Astrophysicist Dr. Joseph Roche will be hosting two panels including one discussing his candidacy for a one-way mission to Mars, which sounds incredible.

The weekends main attraction is no doubt going to be Pendleton Ward. The creator of one of the biggest cartoon series in the world, Adventure Time. Along with signing autographs, he will also be hosting a panel and subsequent Q&A, were fans will get an opportunity to question how a perfectly sane person can create things like the “Great Mushroom War”

In addition to the guests there will be a multitude of events and activity’s for fans to enjoy. From concerts, special screenings of movies and TV shows, informative panels on everything from creative writing to J-Fashion. There will be no shortage of fun and excitement for those in attendance to take part in, including Firefly and Hunger Games role playing games were fans can take the roles of their favourite characters and battle it out(not physically hopefully)

The much anticipated volume 4 of the brilliant Lightning Strike anthology comic will be launched and will no doubt be snapped up just as quickly as previous issues, so be sure to make a beeline for their table upon entry to avoid missing out -like a certain nameless FTN crew member did last year and spent weeks trying to track down a copy.

The convention also attracts some of the greatest and most inventive cosplay outfits you could imagine and with famed Costume Designer Missyeru in attendance, this year will no doubt up the efforts of those looking to impress with their outfits.

Following The Nerd will be represented by the team at The 2D Cast who will be teaming up with The Irish Pubcast and will no doubt bring their own unique sense of anarchy and chaos to proceedings.

Last years event was completely sold out and this year will be no different, so to avoid disappointment book your tickets here for what will be one the best conventions of the year.

There is no shortage of events and the wonderful and unique atmosphere of inclusiveness is something you wont find at most other conventions. There is a beautiful sense of community and after attending last year I can not recommend Arcadecon enough. There is something for everyone who has an interest in any facet of nerdom.

The full schedule of events can be found here

See you there!!!

Now retired from slaying spooks, he spends his time obsessing over superheroes (especially Batman) and devouring shows like Dexter, Game of Thrones and Archer in a manner that would make Galactus proud.
