Benedict Cumberbatch Rumored To Be Martian Manhunter

September 3rd, 2014 by Andrew McCarroll 1 Comment

In his on-going quest to be in every film franchise ever, Benedict Cumberbatch’s name has now been thrown forward for another superhero. With the Doctor Strange rumours beginning to subside in the wake of Joaquin Phoenix being dragged kicking and screaming to Marvel Studios to take the role. DC have apparently turned their attention to the Sherlock star to play another detective, albeit an alien one.

Martian Manhunter, also known as J’onn J’onzz and John Jones, is a superhero from the planet Mars and the last surviving member of his race. His abilities include super-strength, super-speed, invulnerability, flight, shape-shifting, intangibility and telepathy. Not to mention he also becomes a police officer in order to blend in further (I feel so lazy now)

Martian Manhunter is the latest member of the Justice League to be linked to make an appearance in the upcoming Batman v Superman Dawn of Justice, with Cumberbatch supposedly the frontrunner to take the role. So far, the only confirmed stars for the film include Henry Cavill as Superman, Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman as well as Ray Fisher as Cyborg. But rumours are circulating almost daily that everyone from The Flash to Bat-Mite will be involved, take this latest news with a massive pinch of salt.

However Chi Chi Izundo, a BBC entertainment reporter at the GQ awards claims that he talked with Benedict Cumberbatch about the ‘speculation’ of being a DC character and says that the actor will not confirm or deny he is in the DC universe.”

Would Cumberbatch be your choice for the character, or would you rather see him as the sorcerer supreme Doctor Strange?

Justice League is expected to be released in 2017

Andrew McCarroll never quite built on the dizzying career heights that he hit at 6 years old, when as a member of the “Ghostbusters” he would charge his neighbours to remove any unwanted spectres. Now retired from slaying spooks, he spends his time obsessing over superheroes (especially Batman) and devouring shows like Dexter, Game of Thrones and Archer in a manner that would make Galactus proud.
