Chris Pratt talks playing Star-Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy

2014 will feature the release of perhaps Marvel’s riskiest and most unique film to date, James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy, led by one of Marvel’s more eccentric heroes Peter Quill aka Star-Lord, played by Chris Pratt.

Pratt recently spoke with Fandango about the role, and reveals that he signed up for the role before reading a script, simply to be part of a Marvel movie:

“Just the fact that he was part of the Marvel brand was really exciting. I was signed up to do the movie before I was even allowed to read a script, so it wasn’t like something about this particular character that got me to do it. The fact that it was a Marvel movie is what got me to do it.”

“Granted, once I did read it there were so many things about the character that I love, and one thing is that he’s very much a kid at heart. He’s like a man-child. And I like the idea that he’s got a false sense of bravado. Deep down inside he’s lonely and desperate. But on the outside he walks around like he’s big and tough, and I don’t think he does a great job of convincing everybody that he’s not just a scared little child.”

I think Pratt is perfect for the role.

Guardians of the Galaxy is directed by James Gunn from his screenplay, with a story by Nicole Perlman and Gunn. The all-star cast includes Chris Pratt as Peter Quill aka Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer, Vin Diesel as Groot, Lee Pace as Ronan the Accuser, Michael Rooker as Yondu, Karen Gillan as Nebula, two-time Academy Award nominee Djimon Hounsou as Korath, with Academy Award winner Benicio del Toro as The Collector, Academy Award nominee John C. Reilly as Rhomann Dey, and six-time Academy Award nominee Glenn Close as Nova Prime.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is set for August 1st, 2014.
