Could Lethal Weapon 5 be on the cards for studio Fox?
During a panel for their Lethal Weapon TV series, starring Damon Wayans and Clayne Crawford, at a Television Critics Association event yesterday, executive producer Dan Lin said the film department at Fox allowed them to extend the franchise to television but that “there may be a Lethal Weapon 5 in the future”.
“There’s still potential for a Lethal Weapon 5,” he said. “The film department was gracious to let us extend the series on television but there may be a Lethal Weapon 5 in the future but for now the focus is 100% on the TV show.”
Lin confirmed that the new show would be toned down for TV compared to the original 1987 film due to it being aired during “family hour“.
“The idea with this show is there will be cases of the week and crimes that we will solve on a weekly basis,” creator Matt Miller said. “That said, there’s a season long mythology and arc we’ll be telling. It starts with the pilot. By the end of however many episodes, there’ll be, I don’t know resolution, but we’ll follow a thread through the series.”
There are also plans to introduce Leo Getz and Lorna Cole, played originally by Joe Pesci and Rene Russo, but this will be down the line if the series is successful.
