Dreamworks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg offered $75 million for three more episodes of Breaking Bad

DreamWorks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg has revealed that he offered the Breaking Bad creators $25 million an episode for three more episodes of the show. His only stipulation was that the additional hour long episodes would be delivered in six-minute installments over 30 days online. He planned to charge viewers from around 50 cents to 99 cents per episode.

His idea was to create:

“the greatest pay-per-view event in scripted television ever.”

Of course he had no idea how it would end:

“I had this crazy idea. I was nuts for the show. I had no idea where this season was going.”

As it turned out, the writing team had a very definite idea of how to wrap up the series, but Katzenberg was certainly ready to pay for his convictions:

“The last series cost about $3.5 million an episode. So they would make more profit from these three shows than they made from five years of the entire series.”
