Judge Dredd fans are going to want to get to W5 tomorrow as, at 4pm, they’ll get the chance to see the fan film Judge Minty.
Judge William Minty has spent his entire adult life policing the violent streets of Mega-City One – and now he’s slowing down. When a lapse of judgement almost ends his life, he knows that it’s time to quit. He can choose to teach in the Academy, or he can leave the city and walk alone out into the anarchy of the Cursed Earth, taking law to the lawless.
Judge Minty is a NOT FOR PROFIT fan film, shown with the kind permission of 2000 AD and Rebellion Judge Dredd® is a registered trademark, © Rebellion A/S®, All rights reserved.
Judge Dredd is the Creation of John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra.
Judge Minty is a film created by fans of Judge Dredd. The project was started over four years ago, inspired by the Judge Dredd portfolio pieces of commercial prop and model creator – Daniel Carey-George. It was originally intended as a very modest production, but with the introduction to the team of digital artist Steve Green the project scope was greatly expanded.
An elaborated script, co written by Michael Carroll, along with the pre production work of Steve and Dan, allowed the team to approach and secure the services of professional actor – Edmund Dehn. With these key elements in place, the completely self funded production began.
The film was reliant on Dredd fans giving their time for free, both amateurs and industry professionals. Often travelling all over the UK to location shoots, in far from suitable conditions. It was the enthusiasm of these people which ensured the completion of the project.
Favourable comments and ‘name checks’ by ‘Dredd’ writer Alex Garland, as well as positive reactions from the likes of John Wagner and Mick McMahon, have helped create further interest in the project. Original created to be shown exclusively online, the kind permission of Rebellion has allowed the film a limited number of ‘non profit’ public screenings.
Judge Minty will be playing on Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th February at W5, Odyssey Arena, Belfast at 3pm.
