COMIC-CON@HOME: The best of the rest of panels

July 27th, 2020 by Marc Comments

Ok, so we can’t possibly cover ALL of Comic-Con@Home, so on top of all the stuff we have covered over the weekend, I have added a selection of the most interesting panels from the weekend below.

You can find ALL the panels on the official youtube channel here.

I hope I didn’t miss too many…

Looney Tunes Panel:

Looney Tunes Cartoons executive producer Pete Browngardt, supervising producer Alex Kirwan, art director Aaron Spurgeon, and voice cast members Eric Bauza, Bob Bergen, and Candi Milo come together for the looniest and liveliest panel you’ll find at Comic-Con@Home. Fans will be delighted as the panel exclusively premieres an all-new cartoon and takes you into the process of how they brought back Bugs, Daffy, Porky, and the other iconic Looney Tunes characters. Looney Tunes Cartoons is produced by Warner Bros. Animation and is now streaming on HBO Max.

Funko Panel:

New product sneak peeks, celebrity shout outs, special first time un-boxings and more… hosted by Funko’s own Mike Becker and Brian Mariotti.

Power Rangers meet-up:

Celebrate more than 27 years of Power Rangers with some of your favorite Power Rangers actors, including Davi Santos (Power Rangers Dino Charge), William Shewfelt (Power Rangers Ninja Steel), Jack Guzman (Power Rangers Wild Force), Jasmeet Baduwalia (Power Rangers Beast Morphers), and a special appearance by Claire Blackwelder (Power Rangers Dino Charge). Moderated by comedian/actor Ben Kliewer (TheConGuy.com). Don’t miss your chance to be part of the Ranger team!

Christmas in July: The Psychology of Pop Culture and Christmas

It may be July, but Christmas is in the air! People love the holidays and have fond memories of various Christmas media, from watching A Charlie Brown Christmas to listening to “All I Want For Christmas Is You” by Mariah Carey to debating whether The Nightmare Before Christmas is a Halloween or Christmas movie. Christmas movies and television shows come from every genre such as horror, science fiction (anyone remember the Star Wars Holiday Special), to classic stories with Santa Claus.

Christmas media is so popular that some television and radio stations run Christmas marathons and specials 24 hours a day during December. What are the psychological aspects about our personality that influence returning year after year to those favorite holiday classics and the desire to experience new Christmas media? Keith W. Beard, Psy.D., April Fugett, Ph.D. (professor of psychology, Marshall University), Britani Black, Psy.D. (Marshall University School of Medicine), and graduate assistants Casey Collins and Jake Bass, M.A., conducted a national survey to identify what are people’s favorite Christmas movies, TV shows/specials, and songs.

Additionally, we examined participant’s personality, as well as their world beliefs to investigate what aspects of our personalities and attitudes draw us to these old and new Christmas classics. Results from the study will be presented along with an overview of the psychological theory behind the pop culture research.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
