Shane Black confirms his Predator IS a sequel

June 26th, 2014 by Irwin Fletcher Comments

Yesterday we got the news that Shane Black was going to reboot Predator for FOX. Today, the Iron Man 3 writer/director cleared thing up a bit while speaking with Collider. Black says that his film does, indeed, tie to franchise continuity:

“Why start over, when you’ve all this rich mythology yet to mine?”

Black adds that he can:

“…really get behind inventive sequels.”

Now does that mean that this may be a sequel of sorts to the original film or 2010’s Predators?
Black is directing and writing the treatment for the film, which will then be scripted in full by Fred Dekker, his co-writer on 1987′s Monster Squad.

Directed by John McTiernan, Predator starred Arnold Schwarzenegger as the leader of a U.S. special forces team that comes under attack from an alien hunter that stalks them in the jungle one by one. It was followed in 1990 by Predator 2. Then the franchise crossed over with Fox’s Alien franchise for two more sequels, Alien vs. Predator and AvP: Requiem. In 2010, Nimrod Antal rebooted the franchise with Predators.
