Variety is reporting that Gotham has found its Detective James Gordon.
Fox and Warner Bros. TV have tapped Ben McKenzie (Southland) to star as a young version of fan favorite Commissioner Gordon.
Gordon, like Batman, first appeared in 1939′s Detective Comics #27. The character has been portrayed multiple times in live action, most recently by Gary Oldman in Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy.
Under development from Bruno Heller (The Mentalist), Gotham will focus on a young Gordon as a detective in Gotham City in the years before Bruce Wayne puts on the Batman cape and cowl. The show will also include a 12-year-old Bruce Wayne as a character, plus appearances from classic Batman rogues including The Joker, Catwoman, Penguin and Riddler.
The pilot episode will be directed by Danny Cannon.
McKenzie ironically voiced Bruce Wayne/Batman in the 2011 animated film Batman: Year One.
