SDCC2014: Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams in talks for The Last of Us movie, promo poster revealed

July 25th, 2014 by Irwin Fletcher Comments

In March, Screen Gems announced that the studio will distribute the live-action adaptation of the hit video game The last of Us. Today in addition to the promo poster above, Naughty Dog Creative Director Neil Druckmann who is writing the film and Sam Raimi who is producing, held a panel at SDCC to discuss it.

Druckmann mentioned that they met with Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams for the role of Ellie, the young girl who may hold the key to the survival of the human race in the game’s story.

Apparently nothing is a lock yet, but Druckman urged audience members to ask Williams about the role later on during the Game of Thrones panel.

Sam Raimi added:

“I think it’s going to be a great character journey and a great love story, and a great horror picture.”

There is no director or release date as of yet, but what would you guys think of Williams in the role?

The Last of Us follows hardened survivor, Joel, and Ellie, a young and capable girl, on their journey through a radically transformed world. Set twenty years after an infectious pandemic spread by the cordyceps virus ravaged the course of humanity, these two people, who were brought together by chance, must make life-altering decisions in order to survive. The Last of Us explores themes of survival, loyalty, love, and redemption in an emotionally charged expedition across a post-epidemic United States.
