A third movie in the Heavy Metal series could become a reality.
That’s according to publisher of ‘Heavy Metal’ magazine Kevin Eastman who was speaking to Dread Central this week.
He told the site he’d been working on a few ideas with director Robert Rodriguez.
“We spent about two years developing it as an opportunity,” Eastman said. “But again, we just couldn’t raise the money under the new regime, which was Jeff Krelitz, myself, and the new main owner of the company.
“Interestingly enough, we’ve had a LOT of conversations within the last six, seven months about some real opportunities that I think…I don’t want to let the cat out of the bag but you can expect some very good news on that front in the very near future, which is incredibly exciting.”
Heavy Metal was a 1981 adult Canadian-American film directed by Gerald Potterton.
It is an anthology of various science fiction and fantasy stories adapted from Heavy Metal magazine and original stories in the same spirit. Like the magazine, the film features a great deal of graphic violence, sexuality, and nudity.
Around 20 years later Heavy Metal 2000 was released. It was feature-length animated film rather than an anthology but was poorly received.
