RUMOR: Is Lawrence Kasdan working on a Boba Fett Spinoff film?

January 4th, 2014 by Irwin Fletcher Comments

While we are all awaiting any snippets of news regarding Star Wars: Episode VII, Disney has yet to announce the stand alone Star Wars movies that they are currently developing.

Disney CEO Bob Iger previously confirmed that Lawrence Kasdan – who is co-writing Episode VII after having co-penned The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi some 30 years ago – and Simon Kinberg (X-Men: Days of Future Past) are working on Star Wars spinoffs “derived from great Star Wars characters that are not part of the overall saga.”

In a recent interview with AMC Movie Talk, Metalocalypse director Jon Schnepp basically confirms that a Boba Fett solo movie is in the works, and that Lawrence Kasdan is the one writing the script for it! The director seemed pretty sure of himself too saying:

“One of them is Boba Fett. It is. I know. I know for a fact. I will never reveal my source, but it is the one written by Lawrence Kasdan.”

Schnepp seemed serious about his claim, despite joking with the other hosts shortly thereafter. You can watch the video below, Schnepp’s comments are at 4:11.

If true who should direct it? Joe Johnston, who intially designed Boba Fett for The Empire Strikes Back, expressed interest in directing a Boba Fett film as far back as 2011. With Johnston directing and Kasdan writing, this film might actually be as awesome as we hope.

Personally I’d love for the whole movie to happen. Then during the credits we see Fett emerge from the Sarlacc pit, realizing that the film was his memories, perhaps giving him motivation to fight his way free.
