Is this the mysterious Clairvoyant in Agents of SHIELD?

March 21st, 2014 by Todd Black Comments

Ok, in the recent special, Marvel: Assembling a Universe, there was a very quick shot of a character in front of computer screens, as seen above.

It’s not much, and we’re not exactly sure where it came from, but there is a theory going around FTN that actually sounds plausible. First off, that this is the mysterious Clairvoyant that is haunting Coulson and team in Agents of Shield. Sound good? Ok. Cause it gets better.

Our theory goes further, in that the Clairvoyant, is actually just a code name for….The Leader.

WHAT?!?!?!?!

Ahem, sorry, so sorry. Anyway, if you’re not familiar, Samuel Sterns aka The Leader is actually a big nemesis of The Hulk. He’s quite popular, and he’s currently a member of the Thunderbolts in the comics.

Now if you’re remembering how The Leader looks in the comics, you may be wondering how we would think it’s him. In the current version of the main line, The Leader has a giant red head (seriously, it’s HUGE!!!!!). However, if you look at the Ultimates version of The Leader (the same line where the MCU’s Nick Fury comes from), you’ll see this.

Much more believable right? A little makeup and prosthetics and you’re set! Now, how does all make sense? What makes him the Clairvoyant? Well it all has to do with his powers. Sterns is smart, like incredibly smart, like he could recite the encyclopedia to you while writing a thesis paper on something smart.

However, his big power that could make him the Clairvoyant is ability to see several moves ahead through strategic thinking. Don’t believe me? Check out his bio, you’ll see something like this. Pay close attention to the last line:

“The Leader has superhuman mental acumen, as a result of his exposure to an explosion of gamma-irradiated waste. He possesses enhanced intuition, pattern solving, information storage and retrieval, and logical and philosophical structuring. His ability to predict probable outcomes of tactical and strategic scenarios is so advanced that it borders on clairvoyance.”

“Borders on clairvoyance” oh yeah, that’s cool. Think also about what was said in the recent episode T.A.H.I.T.I. it was admitted that Coulson’s revival, and the means to which it happened, was unknown to the Clairvoyant. This isn’t too hard to believe, as Fury had to go WAY off book to bring Coulson back. Very few know about it, and we still don’t know about the “blue man” yet. If we don’t, how could the Clairvoyant?

Now, some of you may know that The Leader was in The Incredible Hulk, although briefly. And some of you may know that in a comic tie-in, The Leader was caught by Black Widow and given to SHIELD. So how could he have escaped? Well….someone that smart is hard to keep pinned down. All it takes is one mistake and The Leader is free. Just saying.

This is all speculation for the record, but you have to admit, some of it sounds really plausible. The Leader is in the MCU, he has the “power” to be a “Clairvoyant” and revealing his true name would certainly draw the wrath of SHIELD. And we know, that there is no Marvel character called The Clairvoyant, else they would’ve been talked about already. So when you put all that together, you get a pretty compelling case for The Leader.

What do you think?
