Margot Robbie has set the collective pulses of fanboy communities around the world racing with her distinctive Harley Quinn look, as seen in the Suicide Squad trailers.

However, Robbie admitted that the idea of wearing Quinn’s original jester costume was entertained, before deciding against the look from Batman: The Animated Series.

Speaking to Hello Giggles (via Squareeyed) about Suicide Squad, Robbie said she and the costume designers went through countless different looks before finally settling on the hotpants and shiny-jacket look: “Oh, we tried on every variation of the costume. I cannot emphasise enough how many outfits, and how many variations of the Harley Quinn costume we tried. We tried the court jester costume, we tried the corset and skirt, we tried leather pants, we tried literally every type of costume possible for her. I really love where we ended up. And who knows, maybe in the sequels we’ll go with the court jester one. I think there’s a world of possibilities.”

The “corset and skirt” and “leather pants” costumes may be a nod to how Quinn looked in the popular Batman: Arkham video game series. In the end, the producers have probably went with the right look for a fairly updated version of the character – her original jester look would have looked out of place among the rest of the squad. In addition, David Ayer and the producers decided to give Jared Leto’s Joker a fairly original, modern look so there would have been a disparity there too.

So, which Harley do you prefer?
