Matt Reeves to direct a third Planet of the Apes film?

According to Deadline 20th Century Fox and Chernin Entertainment have signed Matt Reeves to direct a sequel to Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.

Although the trade says his directing deal is complete, negotiations are ongoing for him to pen the script Reeves with Mark Bomback, who wrote the script for the sequel to Rise of the Planet of the Apes. They add it’s ” likely that Reeves will likely go right into the third film, a priority for the studio.”

Reeves’ other directing credits include Cloverfield and Let Me In.

“A growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier. They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth’s dominant species.”

Directed by Matt Reeves with a script from Scott Z. Burns, Amanda Silver, Rick Jaffa and Mark Bomback,  Dawn of the Planet of the Apes continues the story that began in 2011′s Rise of the Planet of the Apes and the cast includes Andy Serkis, Jason Clarke, Gary Oldman, Keri Russell, Toby Kebbell, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Enrique Murciano, Kirk Acevedo and Judy Greer.

Dawn comes to theaters on July 11th, 2014 in the US and on July 17th in the UK.
